Celebrating America 250: The Stories Behind America’s National Symbols

 Wednesday, July 8     3:00pm

This year is our nation’s 250th anniversary so what better time to look at the interesting, and oftentimes quirky, history behind our national symbols. We’ll answer questions such as, why did circuses and theaters hope to never play the immensely popular song The Stars and Stripes Forever? What national emblem has existed for over 35 million years, been taken into space and used as currency? What change in the saying of the pledge of allegiance was caused by World War II? Are bald eagles really bald and if not, why are they called bald eagles? Why wasn’t the Star-Spangled Banner flag actually flown over Ft. McHenry during the British attack, and what is Francis Scott Key’s connection to one of the most famous murder trials in U.S. history?
